Dirt!
As summer days are here and the weather is changing we find ourselves outside and busy! Where we live, the winter months are long with lots of snow and cold weather. We love the beauty of the winter wonderland and it seems to draw out the Christmas season a little longer. Can’t beat that 🙂
And then comes warmer weather and time to watch new life begin. We love to garden and get our hands in soil. We love the colors of all the different varieties of flowers and try to bring in hummingbirds, bees and butterflies and even dragonflies. We find spring and summer to boost our feelings of the future and feel the stress of our lives a little lighter.
I started doing some reading about dirt! Getting our hands dirty and digging in the ground. I came across this tidbit of information that I decided to send along to you.
Did you know that there are microbes in soil that can positively impact your mental health? Who knew? Some microbes actually increase the serotonin levels in the brain. That alone can help with reducing anxiety and lower stress and help with depression. It all started to make sense…

Soil microbes have been found to have similar effects to antidepressants. Learn to make yourself happier and healthier through gardening.

So, grow something! Bringing your children into the garden or even a window sill can provide a place for you and your children to grow a special mood enhancer. Plant a flower or two, maybe a vegetable that you like to eat. The reward of watching beauty or consuming something that you have nurtured should have a positive affect on us as well!
